Trent-Severn Waterway

The Trent-Severn Waterway stretches 386 kilometers across Southern Ontario, linking the Bay of Quinte at the east end of Lake Ontario, to Georgian Bay in Lake Huron.

The smallest lock on the Trent-Severn is Port Severn (Lock #45). It measures 25.4m (84') long and 7.0m (23') wide. Vessels wishing to travel the entire Waterway cannot exceed these dimensions.

Big Chute Marine Railway Restrictions: the Big Chute (Lock #44) is a marine railway that carries boats across land in a cradle. Vessels wishing to use Big Chute must adhere to the following restrictions: Max. vessel length: 30.5m (99.2') Max. vessel beam (width): 7.3m (24') Max. vessel weight: 90 metric tonnes (99 tons)

Note: Vessels that weigh more than 68 metric tonnes (75 tons) or have a peculiar hull configuration must contact Trent-Severn Waterway Headquarters in Peterborough { (705) 750-4900 } at least 48 hours in advance of trip.
